Our Founders

Shannon Garcia-Hamilton and Russell Hamilton grew up in Southern California. They met working on Catalina Island and were married shortly after. In their 34 years together they raised four children and one grandson.

Shannon worked with Homeland Security for the Transportation Security Administration and Russell as a General Contractor for commercial properties.

During her time with the Department of Homeland Security, she often traveled and worked in Washington DC. It was there that she witnessed the partnership between local churches, both inner-city and suburban. She was inspired by their shared mission of community health and service to one another.

Once she returned to California, she was determined to find a way to implement partnerships within her local church. Shortly after, a local Christian rap artist introduced Shannon, Russ, and their pastor, Mark Nazarian, to Pastor Todd Grant. And within a month, Watts Powerhouse Food 501(c)(3) was founded.

Throughout their marriage there was a common thread they enjoyed, feeding people. Whether in their home for friends, family, or the local young adults in their church, it was always about service. And, like everything in her life, once she had her mindset, she accomplished it.

Shannon and Russ served together for seven years until her passing in 2014.
Russ has carried on the charity ever since.
